The Food Crisis – A Scenario Game for Managing Crises in the Food System
How do we make local decisions when food deliveries fail and uncertainty is high? This question lies at the heart of Livsmedelskrisen (The Food Crisis), a new project that has been awarded funding under Vinnova’s Impact Innovations acceleration funding scheme.
The project develops and tests a research-based scenario game that combines the Swedish civil defence and resilience agency’s exercise support tool “Öva enkelt!” with systems analysis. Through exercises, roles, dependencies, and collaboration challenges among municipalities, regions, national authorities, the private sector, and civil society are made visible, and can be used to strengthen capacity.
The project is carried out on Gotland and involves, among others, Region Gotland, the County Administrative Board of Gotland, Mid Sweden University, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), and the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency, together with local actors within the food system. The project is led and coordinated by Mid Sweden University, where the Risk and Crisis Research Centre (RCR) is responsible for project implementation.
Experiences and results from the project will be compiled and made available for broad use within the public sector. The project is part of SustainGov’s work to address complex societal challenges and strengthens the focus area Future-Proof Food Supply. In doing so, the project contributes to both local crisis preparedness and national benefit, while also reinforcing SustainGov’s efforts to link systems analysis with practical exercises.
