Course Package: Introduction to Environmental Science and Sustainable Development, 30 hp

The course package consists of the following courses:



Sustainable Development - Introductory Course, 7.5 credits:

Sustainable development "…meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." What does this mean, and how do we know if our development is sustainable or if we are moving towards sustainability. These questions are investigated in this course.



Scientific Introduction to Environmental Science, 15 credits:

This course will provide an introduction to the field of environmental science through thematic studies of environmental issues from a natural resource perspective. The course will emphasise basic principles of natural science, systems analysis and the use of models to promote better understanding.



Environmental Engineering 1, 7.5 credits:

The course make use of engineering tools covering techniques and technical processes that contribute to reduced environmental impact. It also provides knowledge of how to make more efficient use of our natural resources. The course contains the following: hydrology, water quality management, treatment/cleaning of water and wastewater, risk assessment, solid waste and hazardous waste management, ionizing radiation and nuclear fuel waste.
