Information for new associate professors and recognized or distinguished teachers
As a newly appointed associate professor as well as recognized or distinguished teacher, you will find practical information about your participation during the Academic Ceremony.
Academic ceremony 2 October, 2026
The Academic Ceremony extends over two days, 1-2 October. On Thursday, new honorary doctors and professors will hold inaugural lectures on campus Sundsvall. On Friday, the ceremony will take place at Sundsvalls Stadshus.
Popular science lectures and discussions – recognized or distinguished teacher
On Friday morning, the programme item “Popular science lectures and discussions” will take place, where recognized or distinguished teacher together with this year’s recipients of the pedagogical award, will be recognised in a dedicated ceremony led by moderators Marie Häggström and Lennart Sauer.
This year’s recipients of the Student Unions’ Pedagogical Award will also give short lectures. You can read more about the programme here: Popular science lectures and discussions.
Your role during the ceremony
On Friday afternoon, the formal ceremony will take place at Sundsvalls stadshus. As an associate professor and a recognized or distinguished teacher, you do not participate on stage during the ceremony. During the ceremony the newly appointed associate professors will be read out.
Banquet
The ceremony is followed by a banquet that begins with mingling at the Quality hotel. The dinner is framed with speeches and entertainment.
Mid Sweden University invites you who are a newly appointed associate professor and a recognized or distinguished teacher to the formal banquet. You can also bring one accompanying person with you to this event.

At the end of August, you will receive an official invitation to the holiday with a link to our registration system. Please note that you must register yourself and any accompanying person for the formal banquet in the registration system.
Dress code
For you and any accompanying person who will be attending the banquet, formal dress, i.e. dark suit or dress apply.
Travel and hotels
The university reimburses travel between campus locations for those who have been appointed recognized or distinguished teachers and associate professors. If you live in a place other than the campus locations, you pay for your own travel. Your accompanying person pays for any travel themself.
The university pays for hotels for those who do not have Sundsvall as their place of work. Your accompanying person stays with you free of charge. Hotels can be booked through Lingmerths.
Material for digital presentation
In connection with the academic ceremony, we will show a digital presentation with our new honorary doctors, doctors, professors, associate professors and recognized or distinguished teachers. For this, you need to submit a picture and information.
