Transformative Technologies
Transformative Technologies (TransTech) is a strategic research environment in which the research centres STC, FSCN, and parts of STRC collaborate. Together they focus on challenges within a mix of forest industry and information technology.
Research, Education and Innovation for Growth and Renewal
Mid Sweden University aims to contribute to regional renewal through research, innovation, and education in collaboration with municipalities and companies. This shared vision is rooted in regional cooperation. One of the goals is for research to support growth and renewal among the companies that collaborate with the university in the field of transformative technologies.
The Transformative Technologies research environment combines the region’s industrial strengths with the dynamic capabilities of Mid Sweden University. Between 2011 and 2024, the environment was part of a formal partnership with the Knowledge Foundation, first as a KK-miljö and later as a so-called Strategic Environment. The aim has been to develop and maintain the capacity for long-term, strategic advancement in research, education, and collaboration with external partners.
Industrial Challenges and Opportunities
Transformation is essential for the forest industry, which needs to develop new products and business areas. Information technology is a growth driver that enables entirely new products and services. By connecting these two sectors, Mid Sweden University contributes to building an industrial ecosystem with significant future potential. Co-production with external partners is central in many projects, meaning that project teams consist of both academic and industry representatives. This creates dynamic environments with the capacity for innovative thinking and fosters growth in both established and emerging companies.
The Vision: Transforming the Industrial Ecosystem (TIE)
The aim of the vision Transforming the Industrial Ecosystem (TIE) is to contribute to development and growth from different perspectives. Transformation is important for the forest industries who need to develop new products and new business areas. Information technology is a growth enabler that creates new products and services. By linking these two industries, we create an industrial ecosystem with particularly exciting prospects regionally and nationally. Co-production is the central point of many of the research projects within the research environment, which means that project teams have both academic and industrial members. It provides dynamic and interesting environments that can identify solutions and thereby driving growth in both established and new companies.
