– What do you do in Sweden, where it is safe, when a crisis occurs? We have experience of what it's like when it's not safe, but we want to learn more about how to prepare for a security crisis, says Alina Kalashnikova, a teacher at Karazin University.

The visit is part of the collaborative project SAFE Ukraine, which was started between RCR and colleagues from the Department of Sociology at Karazin University in Kharkiv. In addition to visits to Sweden, a number of seminars in risk and crisis theory have been arranged with sociology teachers in Kharkiv with the aim of helping them develop a course that will be included in their regular course offerings. The project is funded by the Swedish Institute.

The group from Ukraine will stay until 26 January. In addition to visiting Mid Sweden University, they will also visit, among others, the Student Union, Jämtlands Gymnasium, Östersund Municipality and

Civil protection. They have also asked to meet with the Women's Shelter to hear about how they work to support women who have been subjected to violence.

– We have seen during the occupation that violence against women is increasing and it is important to know how best to help women and children, says one of the sociology students.
