WAYA ‑ a qualitative study that investigates how young people affected by cancer experience that holiday and rest affects their health and wellbeing
The overarching WAYA project focuses on how a nature-based program affects health and wellbeing among you people affected by cancer (www.miun.se/waya2). This substudy aims to investigate how participants in the holiday program experiences that holiday and rest effects their health and wellbeing.
Contribute to cancer research at Mid Sweden University?
Are you an ambitious student that would like to contribute to our research about nature, holiday, recreation, and its effect on health and wellbeing among you people affected by cancer?
There is an opportunity for 1-2 students to use qualitative data from our WAYA-2 study for analysis as part of their magister/master thesis in Nursing (Spring 2026).
Data has been generated in individual interviews where participants in the WAYA holiday program was interviewed circa one year after program participation (Fall 2025).
Within the WAYA project, several substudies are made. The main objective of the program is in a full scale RCT study, in depth study what effects the program has on health and wellbeing. The participants constitutes 150 young people (16-39 years of age) that was randomized into a nature-based, or a holiday based program.
The participant interviewed in this substudy (ca 25) participated in the holiday program during summer/fall 2024.

We are looking for highly motivated students that are willing to write their thesis in english, and that have an inteterest to also contribute as co-authors in future scientific publications.
