Rumours
In connection to any event, rumours will inevitably spread as a result of lack of information. These rumours often are often picked up by the media, and become part of the public discussion.
Rumours often develop from a collective discussion, as a simple solution to complicated issues. The solution could well be accurate, and at the same time misleading.
The purpose of this study is to describe what a rumour is, investigate how rumours start and spread, and what becomes the subject of a rumour.
The study also aims to discuss how information representatives could handle rumours in the event of a crisis.
The project is a collaboration with Professor Gary Fine, Northwestern University, USA.
