EduWell: Education for Health and Learning
The research network EduWell will perform research on school health education in Sweden, Finland, Norway and Iceland with a focus on mental health. The mental health of young people is a major societal challenge in our time and school is an important arena for young people's well-being.
The school's main mission is to ensure the conditions for students' learning and development. Physical health has been a focus of school health education since the 19th century, and sexual health since the 20th century.
There is a need for development in school health education about mental health and well-being, as well as knowledge about strategies to promote one's own well-being. Young people have the right to knowledge about their own health and well-being according to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and they actively demand this knowledge.
Good examples of health education in terms of content, structure and scope can be found in Sweden, Finland, Norway and Iceland. These four nations have resources in different areas.
The intention of the international research network EduWell is to combine these resources and create a comprehensive knowledge base with interdisciplinary research on school health education with a Scandinavian perspective.
