Malin Burman – from Student to Driven Entrepreneur | 2009 |
A year after she had been awarded her degree from the Risk and Crisis Management Programme, Malin Burman received an award called “Young Entrepreneur of the Year” at Guldgalan (the Gold Gala) in Östersund. She had chosen to cut her own path.
Malin Burman was one of the first batch of students at the Risk and Crisis Management Programme at Mid Sweden University and she got her degree in 2012. Out of the 30 students in the class, many were employed by the municipality, state, police or emergency services. But Malin decided instead to start her own business, called Kriskonsulterna (the Crisis Consultants).
Through her business, she helps companies and organizations to improve their crisis preparedness. It can be about creating emergency plans, educating management teams or heading individual projects at workplaces where they want to start working on their crisis management. She also does systematic work on working environments in nterms of unhealth and accidents, primarily at privately owned companies.
– A lot of my work has to do with the soft values. What does it mean if an employee passes away or commits suicide? That is to say events that start a chain reaction, she says.
When she was starting her company, she got support from MIUN Innovation that helped her develop her ideas.
– Juliana Wettersten and Jenny Sandström at MIUN Innovation were like rocks for me to lean on at the beginning of my career, says Malin Burman. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today. They were always there to answer my questions and I could always phone them. They also taught me economics and business development. It is absolutely invaluable, concludes Malin.
