New departments at the NMT faculty

At the turn of the year, an organizational change was carried out at the Faculty of Science, Technology and Media. As of January 1, 2023, the employees are organized into four new departments, which replace the previous ten departments.

The change affects all teachers and researchers who work within the faculty.

Four new departments

  • Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering, DET
  • Department of Engineering, Mathematics and Science Education, IMD
  • Department of Communication, Quality Management and Information Systems, KKI
  • Department of Natural Sciences, Design and Sustainable Development, NDH

During the fall of 2022, work has been underway to prepare for the organizational change. It is primarily about adapting the university's various systems to the new organisation. For example, we will update the website for Mid Sweden University so that there will be new department pages and new contact persons. It will also entail new organizational affiliations and new groups for affected personnel. We will also update signs and organizational charts in entrances and office buildings on both campuses. The change does not affect students, partners or suppliers to such a large extent.

Better conditions for planning and collaboration

The purpose of the new departmental organization is to create better conditions for planning and strategic development. The establishment of management groups with representatives from different parts of the department ensures that closeness to the management is maintained while relieving the role of head of department. Fewer institutions also provide the opportunity for more concentrated operational support from the administration departments and the faculty office with, among other things, communication officers, economists and administration officers closer to the department's employees.

Our hope is that it will become clearer and easier for everyone to collaborate and develop the education and research at the university, says Dan Bylund, vice dean and project manager for the organizational change.
