The work on evaluation cycle two within the Treklövern collaboration has now started with a small pilot round for media and communication science and journalism. One of the changes that has been made is that new clusters only start once a year, every autumn.

We have made a number of changes to the new Treklöver system with the aim of simplifying and improving the evaluations. Our hope is that the evaluations in Treklövern will be even more quality-driven," says Håkan Wiklund, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for quality.

The Vice-Chancellor has appointed Sara Ödmark as Mid Sweden University's representative in the assessment group and the recruitment of the external representatives and student representatives who will be part of the work that will start in earnest after the summer is now underway. The revised instructions that will be used in the work have been decided and can be found published on miun.se/treklovern under "documents"

Changes made ahead of the start of cycle two:

  • New assessment criteria have been introduced
  • All instructions and templates have been reviewed
  • Education statistics must be produced for each evaluation.
  • The number of independent projects will be reduced from five to four, but at least five will still be included in the sample.
  • The scale for the assessment of independent projects has been changed from very high/high/deficient to high/good/deficient.
  • A feedback conference has been introduced during the fact-checking of the report.
  • The inspirational seminar, which replaced the 1-year follow-up at the end of cycle 1, will be made permanent in cycle 2.

A final report from the assessment group for the evaluation of media and communication studies and journalism will be ready by summer 2025.

Treklövern – A common evaluation system

Quality in higher education is about a broad focus on the entire education, students' experiences and connection to working life. Mid Sweden University, Karlstad University and Linnaeus University work together in a model for quality development within the Treklövern collaboration. Programmes with similar content are grouped into clusters and reviewed by assessment groups with representatives from the three higher education institutions, subject experts from other universities, students and representatives from working life. The background is that the higher education institutions are responsible for designing their own evaluation systems in the area of quality assurance, which replaces the control previously carried out by the Swedish Higher Education Authority (UKÄ). The higher education institutions will be responsible for reviewing the majority of their programmes. UKÄ is responsible for thematic evaluations, reviews a selection of programmes, conducts degree examinations and reviews the quality assurance work of higher education institutions.
