A warm welcome to Mid Sweden University! As a new employee, you probably have questions and concerns about what support you can get regarding your teaching.
Pedagogical Development, Lifelong Learning and Collaboration (PULS) at the Division of Research and Education Support offers various forms of pedagogical support: you can book an appointment with a pedagogical developer, book workshops and training designed according to your wishes, or take one of the courses in teaching and learning in higher education that are available. Here you can read more about educational development at Mid Sweden University.
At Mid Sweden University, the learning platform Canvas is used. When you are hired, your manager orders a user account to log in to the IT department. This is needed for you to be able to use Canvas. Course rooms in Canvas are created by a connection to Ladok and course coordinators are added directly from Ladok. The course coordinator is then responsible for adding other teachers who will have access to the course.
To help you when using Canvas, there are Canvas guides (which you can access when you get an account in Canvas) that describe and explain the basics. Our support range also includes workshops to help you get started with Canvas and drop-in support sessions, so-called Canvas cabins. You can also receive individual guidance and support. Email to book an appointment.
Via SUNET (Swedish University Data Network), Mid Sweden University's employees have access to the e-meeting tool Zoom. You can use this for e.g. supervision, lectures, meetings and seminars in online courses. You'll need headphones with a microphone and a webcam for attendees to see you. Here you can read more about Zoom.
You can find more information about digital tools available on the Employee Software page.
As a new employee, it is also good to know that you can film a presentation, a lecture, seminar or any other activity for your teaching. You can record in Zoom or the tool Kaltura Capture, which can be accessed via play.miun.se and "Add new". There are also studios, so-called Zoom rooms, in both Sundsvall and Östersund where you can record or conduct distance learning or digital meetings with good quality. Note that a Zoom room is something completely different from a Zoom meeting that you run from your computer and provides a different quality of experience.
