Sexuality, Consent and Relationships (SCR) – Lower Secondary Students’ Perspectives, Experiences and Needs

Since 2022, the curriculum has included teaching the subject area of SCR in all core subjects. But what experiences do lower secondary students have of SCR education, and where do they get information/counselling?

Teaching about sexuality, consent and relationships is important because it provides young people with the knowledge and tools to build safe, respectful and equal relationships. It also helps prevent violence, abuse and discrimination by strengthening understanding of bodily integrity and individual rights. Schools therefore play an important role through SCR education.

We are planning a digital study (quantitative) in the spring of 2026, in which we aim to investigate students’ (grade 9) experiences and needs regarding SCR teaching.

We are looking for several students to take part in the project. The students who are accepted will have the opportunity to discuss and shape the project’s purpose, specific research questions and analyses together with the supervisors.

We would preferably like two students to work together (for example, within Public Health Science it is possible to write the independent project in pairs – provided that an explanation of the division of work is submitted to the supervisor).
