IMMERSE ‑ Augmented and Immersive Remote Presence and Operation
IMMERSE aims to transform remote operations with technologies for augmented and immersive experiences, targeting the Aurora region's challenges and skills shortages. Its goal is to improve the access and deployment of specialized expertise in remote areas, with a focus on sustainability and inclusivity.
The project's core innovation lies in its development of advanced digital imaging, computer vision, and augmented reality, enabling customized information and immersive experiences for remote operation. With one or several 360-degree cameras, IMMERSE captures detailed scenes of remote locations, offering users the sensation of physical presence and the ability to interact with the environment virtually. This technological leap is particularly beneficial for sectors like mining, forestry, and manufacturing, where it promises enhanced operational efficiency, safety, and environmental sustainability by significantly reducing the need for travel.
Anticipated outcomes in the project include:
- Creating proof-of-concept demonstrators at Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) 4, 5, and 6 to showcase the technology's ability to improve remote operations.
- Building academic and professional expertise through partnerships with Swedish and Finnish universities, creating a skilled talent pipeline.
- Sharing project insights through research publications to enrich the knowledge base in academia and industry.
