The Critical Theory Research Network
The network for Critical Theory k was established in 2024 with the aim of making visible and promoting the research and collaborations that already took place at the department, as well as to promote new research and teaching in the field.
“Critical Theory” in this context should be interpreted broadly: it includes research on everything from contemporary poetry to socio-economic conditions. The common denominator is an idea that all research ultimately aims to change society, a basic stance that implies a constant re-examination of established truths and ingrained beliefs, including one’s own scientific position. The goal of critical theory is not to deliver answers but new questions. The origin is found in the Enlightenment (Kant, Hegel, Marx...), whose ideals were given a socially critical direction in the 20th century, first with the Frankfurt School, and later in poststructuralism, gender theory, posthumanism, neo-materialism, etc.
The network arranges seminars and conducts a number of smaller and larger research projects, individually and in collaborations. Overall, this makes the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences a vital environment in contemporary Critical Theory, with branches to researchers and networks at other universities and in other countries.
