Inaugural lecture: Decentering the Neoliberal Majoritarian Subject of Productivity in Academia
In her inaugural lecture honorary doctor Erzsébet Barát speaks about collective transformative action and for embracing the ‘university of ignorance’ (Walker 2016) against neoliberal efficiency and productivity.
To maintain critical pedagogy as a viable option, I propose embracing slow learning, the practice of reading against the neoliberal demand of cognitive closure and certainty that reduces our universities into resources. Such an action requires radical solidarity built on the negotiation of dissonance instead of identitarian sameness. Instead of appealing to neoliberal “deserving”, it is organized by the dynamic and ambivalent social activity of trusting the other to agree and disagree.
