The group in Surface and Colloid Engineering works on soft matter research. Our ambitious research projects are curiosity-driven and we aim to generate groundbreaking knowledge. We are focusing on renewable materials, like biopolymers, and efficient resource utilization, and we wish to contribute to a more sustainable world. Specifically, we do research on biobased composites, triboelectrics for energy generation, supercapacitors for energy storage, and air and water purification systems.
The research group has a large international collaboration network, several international guest professors, and we work together with many companies.

Luisa Policastro, a PhD student from Politecnico di Torino, is spending seven months at the FSCN Research Centre at Mid Sweden University as part of an international collaboration focused on advanced battery technologies, under the supervision of FSCN researcher Ghadir Razaz.

In his doctoral research, PhD student Rohan Patil has identified a new method for producing silicon nanoparticles for silicon-graphite battery anodes. The findings, which could contribute to higher-capacity lithium-ion batteries, will be presented at his thesis defence on 12 June.

Researchers, industry and public-sector stakeholders from Sweden and Norway met in Trondheim on 27–28 May to strengthen collaboration on sustainable materials and the green industry of the future. From Mid Sweden University's FSCN Research Centre, around 15 researchers participated.
