Circular Biomass 3.0
Project Circular Biomass 3.0 is based on the future industrialization of Norrland and focuses on research in clean environment and sustainable local food and energy production.
Sweden is dependent on importing fertiliser, feed, and food, while energy production needs to be adapted to new requirements. In addition, non-renewable fuels must be phased out and a sharp reduction in greenhouse gas emissions must take place.
Project Circular Biomass 3.0 is based on the future industrialization of Norrland and focuses on research in clean environment and sustainable local production of food and energy. The project is supported by municipalities, county administrative boards and companies in the region and strengthens Mid Sweden Universities research, innovation, and verification of processes.
One goal is to prepare for local industrial production with sustainable processes and products so that climate-affecting activities and emissions can be reduced or stopped.
The project starts from cheap, unwanted biomass from industry and society that is refined into modern sustainable energy, metals, ingredients in food and feed by using yeast, fungi, algae, bacteria. At the same time, potentially toxic material can be purified from organic toxins such as PAH, PFAS, PCB and heavy metals with microorganisms.
