Computer Engineering
Today, computer systems are everywhere in our society, something we can benefit from in many different areas.
By learning how they are structured and how they are developed, programmed and communicate with each other, you will be equipped to work in the IT industry. You will also gain an understanding of the connection between hardware and software, as well as of computer systems and the design of IT systems in the broadest sense.
Developments in the digital society create ever higher expectations for faster and constant connection. We want to be able to send and receive high-quality audio, images and video, and companies are pushing to meet the requirements. They constantly need to stay one step ahead and develop new and updated software and systems. In the subject computer engineering, you will learn how. The focus is on programming, network communication, problem solving and on creating efficient and clear programs. Common to all courses is that the combination of software and hardware is central. This makes you equipped to work with systems that exist in our everyday lives, from intranets and servers to personal computers and mobile phones. You will learn, for example, how modern operating systems work, how distributed systems are structured and communicate, and principles for storing information in database systems. You will also learn all the steps for creating programs, from creating a user requirements specification to the finished result. Other courses focus on development in the popular areas of web and mobile applications. Courses in computer engineering are given both at a distance and with Sundsvall as the place of study. Some courses, at all levels, may be given in English. In-depth studies are linked to current research at Mid Sweden University, such as computer networks, distributed systems, mobile services, multimedia services, video coding, decision-making systems, machine learning, and human-computer interaction.
