Media and Communication Studies
Communication is the alpha and omega of a functioning society.
In order to influence the development of society, it is necessary to be able to communicate professionally. This can be done in a variety of ways and through a variety of means of communication, ranging from Twitter to TV commercials. If you want to be involved in changing society through communication, this subject is for you. Communication is a key to change.
The media has a great influence on our time and our image of the world. Information of various kinds washes over us daily through television, radio, newspapers, the internet, mobile phones and in direct encounters with others. In other words, media and communication studies is a very broad subject that deals with, among other things, organizational communication and strategic communication. Questions about the power and possibilities of the media, as well as how to create and maintain dialogue and long-term relationships with your stakeholders and target groups, are also included.
The studies at Mid Sweden University provide a general foundation in communication theory and there is also a tradition of good collaboration with industry and industry in the form of long internships, collaborative projects and research. Our courses and the three-year Communication and PR program can lead to jobs as a PR consultant and communicator in various media companies, at advertising agencies, companies and organizations or as a marketing communicator and project manager in the field of communication.
Courses in media and communication studies can also be combined with, for example, political science, business administration or graphic design, which opens up for even more professions. In most professional areas, knowledge of communication is useful, which is why the subject is also a good complement to many other educations.
The subject is offered from the first cycle to the second cycle and can be used as the main field of study in a Bachelor's, Master's or Master's degree. Mid Sweden University conducts high-profile research in political communication, organizational communication and media development.
At Mid Sweden University's Department of Media and Communication Studies, you will also find courses in journalism, all with the common denominator that communication is in focus, albeit in different ways.
